Buying a used studio camera: the impact of flashes on shutter wear
Studio carcass: ostentatious on the outside, tired on the inside?
When viewing ads on Avito, you often come across cameras marked:“I only filmed in a dry, warm studio on tripod". The body of this carcass is truly flawless: not a single scratch, rubber bands like new, no bayonet traces of dust. What's the catch?
As a service engineer, I will name 3 hidden problems of studio cameras with slight visual wear.
1. Huge hidden bolt release
In the studio, during one catalog shoot of clothes/models, the photographer presses the shutter thousands of times. Total mileage of the studio carcasses in 2 years can easily reach 250,000 - 350,000 frames! Externally, the camera looks perfect, and the shutter is one step away from the wedge.
2. Wear of the center contact of the hot shoe (Hot Shoe)
When frequently working with radio synchronizers of studio flashes (Profoto, Godox, Broncolor) on the shoe contacts microarcs and burning of the lamellas occur. Check that the synchronizer is securely seated when purchasing.
3. Matrix after pulsed light and modeling lamps
In the studio, the camera operates in conditions of frequent temperature changes (the modeling light heats up the body). Required check the file for hot pixels.
