PENTAX K-1 mileage diagnostics: checking the only full Pentax frame

Pentax's only full frame: K-1 mileage diagnostics

RICOH IMAGING PENTAX K-1 (2016) is a historical device: the first full-frame DSLR in many years and the only one in the modern Pentax line. 36.4-megapixel Sony sensor, 100-point moisture protection of the body (the best among all DSLRs at the time of release!), built-in Astrotracer for astrophotography and a unique moving matrix for pixel shift shooting. The camera attracted the most devoted fans of the Pentax system and serious landscape photographers. Their operating history is the history of a used K-1.

Landscape and nature photographers with K-1 work in the most difficult conditions: mountains, rain, snow, night astro sessions. 100-point waterproofing allows you to work where others wouldn't dare take the camera. High load under extreme conditions means you need to check the mileage before purchasing.

Shutter life and unique movable matrix

The K-1 shutter is designed for 300,000 guaranteed shutter releases - a record for Pentax and a competitive result among all full-frame DSLRs. Pixel Shift Resolution System (multi-exposure shooting with sensor shift) adds mechanical triggers to the counter with each composite shot. When evaluating a high mileage K-1, check to see if this feature has been actively used.

Reading the counter from PEF files PENTAX K-1

Mileage data is stored in the MakerNotes block of PEF and DNG files. For diagnostics you need the original RAW from the memory card. Our service correctly reads K-1 metadata from Ricoh Imaging.
