Official shutter resource vs real one: how long does a camera actually last?
Myths from the passport: What are manufacturers hiding?
When you buy a camera, it is written in the instructions or on the manufacturer’s website: *“The declared shutter life is 150,000 operations”*. Beginners get the feeling that exactly on the 150,001st frame the shutter will definitely explode, scattering into metal shavings.
In my service practice, everything is arranged completely differently.
What is “Shutter Lifetime Warranty”?
The official resource is the **minimum statistical tolerance** that the Nikon factory tests on robot stands at normal temperature and humidity.
This is analogous to a car warranty: if a car is guaranteed to run for 100,000 km, this does not mean that the engine will seize at the 101st thousand. With good oil, a car can last 300,000 km.
