D7500 on the secondary market: why is it being taken in 2026?

Nikon D7500 is perhaps the most successful “crop” in the Nikon line over the past 10 years. Matrix 20 MP, autofocus from reportage D500, 4K video shooting, tilting screen and weight less than 700 grams. It is no longer available in official stores. sold as a new product, and the carcass went en masse to the secondary market.

Claimed resource and reality

Nikon officially declares the D7500's shutter life to be150,000 frames. In practice, from my observations:

• Amateur copies (family photos, vacations, cats) really go200,000–220,000 framesup to first problems.
• Active videographers and reporters “kill” curtains at 130,000–160,000 frames - due to burst shooting and heat.

Weaknesses of the D7500 that sellers are silent about

1. Lack of IR protection by infrared sensor (IR):The D7500 is more sensitive to IR flare than predecessor of the D7200. Not critical, but be aware.
2. One memory card slot:Professionals criticize the lack of a second SD slot. For an amateur - no problem, but a used copy could actively work in reportage mode precisely because the owner “had enough of one slot".
3. Plastic bayonet pad:The D7500 has a mount with a plastic edging ring (not metal, like the D7200). Inspect the condition of this ring - cracks and play will indicate frequent lens changes.
4. Battery EN-EL15: look at the condition of the contacts: green oxides on golden spots battery compartment says storage with a dead battery is a bad sign.

Checklist at a meeting with the seller (5 minutes)

1. Ask to send a RAW file (.NEF) in advance and check the mileage on our service.
2. Point at a white wall and take a photo at 1/4000 sec - check for streaking.
3. Remove the lens, turn on “Mirror Up” and inspect the curtains with a flashlight.
4. Check the bayonet ring for cracks and play.
5. At the same time, take a picture with an f/22 aperture against a white background - check the matrix.
